Use one shared four-front sheet for the whole mini-campaign, but give each event a different primary question and base deal for those fronts.

  1. Shared spine for the whole campaign
  • One card with four 0–3 tracks: Contagion / Identity / Reputation / Institutions.
  • Between events, don’t reset; convert high scores into 1–2 short scars per front (per 8cf1cdaa-d314-4e5a-95d9-34f5dbd4fc98).
  • At each event, define:
    • A primary front (what this event mostly pushes).
    • A protected front (harder to move this event).
    • A default trade template for tough choices.
  1. Event 1: Public performance (overt play) Goal: gate access to the text.
  • Primary: Contagion. Protected: Institutions.
  • Default trade: “Contain the play” vs “let it run to learn more.”
    • Choices that block access → Contagion↓ now, Identity↑ (private exposure, guilt) or Reputation↓ (seen as censors).
    • Choices that enable access → Contagion↑, Reputation↑ (praised, funded), Institutions stable.
  • Design knobs:
    • Most scenes present: save audience vs save selves.
    • Almost no immediate institutional collapse; those costs are deferred. Result: you exit with a clear sense of how far you let the play spread and what you paid in self-image or public image.
  1. Event 2: Private salon (elite circle) Goal: gate intimacy with Carcosa people.
  • Primary: Identity. Protected: Contagion (already seeded; growth is slower, subtler).
  • Default trade: “stay legible” vs “stay inside.”
    • Staying in the circle → Identity↑ (blur, obsession), Reputation drift (either up with bohemians or down with wider society), some Contagion creep via influence.
    • Pulling back / exposing the circle → Reputation↑ with outsiders, Institutions↓ (the scene, gallery, or host is damaged), Identity stabilises a bit.
  • Design knobs:
    • Most dilemmas: betray trust vs lose self.
    • Treat Carcosa talk and the Yellow Sign as social currency, not a stage prop. Result: this event mainly re-writes who the PCs think they are and who “owns” their story socially.

    • Trying to contain/regulate the meme → Institutions↓ short-term (backlash, overreach), Contagion↓ if you succeed, Reputation mixed (hero to some, villain to others).
    • Riding or weaponising the meme → Institutions↑ for some faction (they learn to use Carcosa tools), Contagion↑, Reputation polarised, Identity only nudged.
  • Design knobs:
    • Dilemmas: protect strangers vs protect structures vs protect truth.
    • Scenes about press, platforms, policy, not just weird videos. Result: this event decides who can legitimately say what “Carcosa” means in public.
  1. Making trade-offs non-repetitive
  • Change what’s cheap/expensive each time:
    • Event 1: Institutions cheap, Contagion swingy.
    • Event 2: Contagion slow, Identity highly volatile.
    • Event 3: Reputation volatile, Institutions swingy.
  • Make one front mostly consequence-only each event:
    • E1: Identity moves mostly as fallout scenes.
    • E2: Institutions move mostly in off-screen epilogues.
    • E3: Identity moves only in a few big, opt-in moments.
  • Vary the kind of decision:
    • E1: crowd-safety triage and censorship calls.
    • E2: relationship and loyalty choices.
    • E3: messaging, leaks, alliances with or against authorities.
  1. Cumulative feel
  • At each event’s end, write 1 scar per front that ticked high:
    • Contagion: “The city remembers the premiere; copycats are easier now.”
    • Identity: “You have a recurring dream of the mask; once per event you can lean into it for an edge at a personal cost.”
    • Reputation: “This institution tags you as ‘Carcosa-adjacent’; they will never fully trust you.”
    • Institutions: “Theatre board purged; new hardline director installed.”
  • Next event, treat scars as modifiers:
    • Fictional position (who takes your calls, who invites you).
    • Simple +/-1 tweaks on checks related to that front.
  1. Safety hooks
  • Pre-agree which fronts can bite hardest for this table (often Identity, Reputation).
  • Make Identity scars opt-in: players choose if/when to cash them for mechanical benefit.
  • Use between-event debriefs to negotiate how much each front can escalate next.

This keeps the same four fronts, but each event has a different driving question and “cheap vs costly” front, so choices feel new while the damage clearly stacks.
